*sigh* After a rapid increase in problematic ghosts, possibly linked to the Death Eaters figuring out how to enslave their victims, the Ministry's Spirit Bureau is forced to admit that they're in over their heads. They look around for the greatest experts they can find, only to discover that the wisest wizards in Britain and Europe can't seem to break through the magics involved. Arthur Weasley, on the other hand, has enough odd contacts to know that there's a number of Americans with skill in this kind of thing- admittedly, it's a partnership between wizards and Muggles, and a very odd one at that, but still.

And that is how the Ghostbusters wind up in England.

"Ray... bring me the chalk."

Two things on that front:

1. If you've already got enough on your plate to read (wow, mixed metaphor), don't worry about it. I appreciate the thought, but trying to do too much at once is only going to make you enjoy your reading less.

2. There actually isn't that much to know about the fandom. The 'Diary of a Mountie' is extremely 'meta' fanfic... see, cadhla asked several of her friends if we wanted to play in a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen roleplaying game, using a system she based off White Wolf's Storyteller. The thing was that we weren't going to use the characters Alan Moore did, nor anyone from the movie. Our game was to be set in 1936, and we had to pick characters that were either set in that time frame or written during that time frame. After my first choice (Captain Lawrence Evans Oates, of the Scott Expedition to the South Pole) was shot down for being a real person and my second (Alec Ramsay, of the Black Stallion novels) gently discouraged because there's not much room for a horse on the docks of Glasgow, I sat down to see if I could find any fictional characters of the time who were at least nominally subject to the Crown. A quick Google search for Canadian heroes yielded a buttload of Mounties, one of whom- Sergeant Preston of the Yukon- had been the main character of a radio series that started in 1936 and ran through to 1943 or so, then became a comic book and TV series. After jiggering a few things about the time frame so that he would be the right age and stuff, I got to play him in the game.

The Diary of a Mountie material is a write-up of our two game sessions ever. The other fanfic related to Preston is simply, well, Sergeant Preston fanfic.
