*sigh* After a rapid increase in problematic ghosts, possibly linked to the Death Eaters figuring out how to enslave their victims, the Ministry's Spirit Bureau is forced to admit that they're in over their heads. They look around for the greatest experts they can find, only to discover that the wisest wizards in Britain and Europe can't seem to break through the magics involved. Arthur Weasley, on the other hand, has enough odd contacts to know that there's a number of Americans with skill in this kind of thing- admittedly, it's a partnership between wizards and Muggles, and a very odd one at that, but still.

And that is how the Ghostbusters wind up in England.

"Ray... bring me the chalk."

The original photo, which I should have saved, shows that behind this dog are a few others and a sled. The sled is standing on dry ground. The dog looks like he's going "OH NO YOU CANNOT EXPECT THIS AAAAUGH", in that context. :)

I don't know for sure, but my brain's occasionally been the same way. (Not as consistently or as interestingly as yours, but still.) Notable crossovers in my mind include Ghostbusters/Sailor Moon (when Queen Beryl's youma are on the rise in New York, who're you gonna call?), Sailor Moon/Shadowrun/Earthdawn (in the last Age, there was a great and noble caer on the moon. Now its princess has been reincarnated, to fight for truth, justice, really big guns, and the highest bidder.), and Digimon Tamers/Yu-Gi-Oh (well, hey, they both play trading card games, right?).

At least you've got the knack for making your crossovers happen. I'm a slow enough writer that mine just sit around in my brain, heckling each other and eating all the cheese dip...

Actually, aside from the part where my brain is just naturally out to kill me for forcing it to do database work all day, I think part of it is the knowledge that I will get a clamour of voices. Hardly seeing any responses to any of the other stuff I post kind of stings, even though I know I should be writing for myself and not for other people.

I've actually ordered the Ghostbusters DVD. I always did love that movie; my only copy of it is on a battered old VHS tape, though. I think I recorded it off Channel 11, years ago.

A friend of mine came up with a sprawling crossover epic that he never did get around to writing, which was actually in my head when this thing cropped up. It involved Demona getting hold of the Necronomicon and Xanatos or Elisa having to call in the Ghostbusters, who after all have fought Cthulhu before.

There may have been an intrusion of Legend of the Overfiend, too, but I've forgotten if that's the case.

See, that's something I don't understand. A real fan would at least try to make things work in a crossover. After all, they like both the things they're crossing, don't they? Isn't it worth the effort?

Okay, point. I burbled at someone else the other day, because she was writing more in a storyline finally...and found out I was the only person who had ever commented on the damn thing at all. >.<

Aw, honey, you know what I think about your filk. If I were anyone in the world except me (and possibly a few of the guys on my College Bowl team), I'd be scared.

Two things on that front:

1. If you've already got enough on your plate to read (wow, mixed metaphor), don't worry about it. I appreciate the thought, but trying to do too much at once is only going to make you enjoy your reading less.

2. There actually isn't that much to know about the fandom. The 'Diary of a Mountie' is extremely 'meta' fanfic... see, cadhla asked several of her friends if we wanted to play in a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen roleplaying game, using a system she based off White Wolf's Storyteller. The thing was that we weren't going to use the characters Alan Moore did, nor anyone from the movie. Our game was to be set in 1936, and we had to pick characters that were either set in that time frame or written during that time frame. After my first choice (Captain Lawrence Evans Oates, of the Scott Expedition to the South Pole) was shot down for being a real person and my second (Alec Ramsay, of the Black Stallion novels) gently discouraged because there's not much room for a horse on the docks of Glasgow, I sat down to see if I could find any fictional characters of the time who were at least nominally subject to the Crown. A quick Google search for Canadian heroes yielded a buttload of Mounties, one of whom- Sergeant Preston of the Yukon- had been the main character of a radio series that started in 1936 and ran through to 1943 or so, then became a comic book and TV series. After jiggering a few things about the time frame so that he would be the right age and stuff, I got to play him in the game.

The Diary of a Mountie material is a write-up of our two game sessions ever. The other fanfic related to Preston is simply, well, Sergeant Preston fanfic.

Gosh, I miss that cartoon. I dragged a number of friends into that fandom before I even knew that the word 'fandom' existed- I think it was probably my first serious fandom besides Star Trek. I figure that when I write this\7 I'm going to ... um...

Sorry. Cat jumped on the keyboard and his brother followed him in front of the monitor. Anyway, when I write this I'm going to assume a certain amount of cartoon continuity (i.e. Winston as the Muggle gadgeteer of the group, Peter's conman father, etc.), but I'm using the description of the actors from the movie. And I loved the movie anyway, so no biggie.

I always thought of the sound as more of an 'ominous whine' (like that of Really Big Capactitors (tm) charging) than an 'ominous hum'... besides, ominous hum is Sgt. Schlock's schtick :)

You have to remember that for some people, fanfic isn't worth the effort. But it doesn't stop them from writing it.

Others just think "wouldn't it be cool if x and y came together?" But don't get around to working out the logistics. Because if they do, they realize that the story will probably fall apart.

So mostly, it boils down to laziness, apathy or simply not knowing better.
