The new comment page is hideous, and I have said as much in the official Livejournal feedback form. Not being able to preview how my comment will look when I use HTML is annoying. Similarly, my icons take forever to load and I would have been happy with the keyword list. And finally, I want my ability to fill in a subject line back. WITHOUT having to use customized comment pages with a particular style.

I have turned off auto-payment on six paid accounts because I do not believe in paying money to be sneered at by a Livejournal programmer who thinks I'm not worth listening to because I'm part of the 'one percent' of users who utilize the features he took away. Livejournal's horrible customer service does not deserve to be rewarded with my money.

Once again, the official feedback form is at this link, for whatever good that does.

I've gone past being pissed at their latest release (and pissed I am, not the least because their new icon-selection USES UP MY VERY EXPENSIVE AND LIMITED INTERNET) to being actively insulted.

I'm not that upset about anoncomms, but man, this is going to be suuuuckcity for RP. How are you guys handling it? S2 styles with custom comments enabled still have old comment styles...but...that's a) not for long, probably and b) not a great thing because of S2's squishing. Any thoughts?

Honestly? Don't know. The change happened late last night, around 1 AM American Eastern time, and there haven't been that many people at milliways_bar posting in the early morning hours for some time, so it may be that we'll hear from them later in the day.

In the meantime, I paid for LJ service. What I'm getting now is not what I wanted, not what I asked for, and not what I should have to take. This isn't "why are you bitching, it's free". This is me, as a customer, getting given something I didn't want or agree to in any way, shape, or form, and being told to take it because they're not going to give my money back.

As I said in another thread, LJ is not a whore. Whores give you the service you want when you pay them.

Ummm...I like being able to see my user pics, since I don't really remember what they look like.

Then again, I don't really use them the way everyone else does. I think I have more than one pic at Milliways because it's sort of the norm.

And to be honest, when I saw that "rant about something" Writer's Bloc, my first thought was about Congress. I am a lot angrier at them than I could ever be about LJ.

I have been angry about Congress for a very long time. This most recent round of voting is just the dung icing on a rotten meat cake.

When I see someone say 'rant about something', I don't see them saying 'tell me your justifiable reasons for anger'. I see them saying 'oh, wow, a crazy person! Let's listen to the crazy person's crazy rage! It's just a rant, and we don't have to pay attention to it, because the ranter is crazy with rage instead of being justified.' Either that or 'You're angry. Let off some steam in a place where it won't offend anyone and where the people you're actually angry at won't hear you, because it's a designated ranting place and only people who want to hear the anger of others ever go there.'

Either way, it came across as condescending.

I don't mind being able to see my icons. You could in the old style too, if you clicked the "Browse" button, and sometimes I found that useful.

What I mind is being forced to use that method to navigate. I have 131 icons on this journal, because I paid for that service. In this new style, if I know exactly what icon I want to use, I have to scroll through all 131 to select it, each and every time. If I'm on a slow internet connection, I still have to load 131 thumbnail pictures if I want to use any of those extra icons I paid LJ for, each and every time. And if I used a screenreader, I'd... be even angrier than I am, probably, because I can't imagine this is very accessible for those.

Y'know, I really should have been suspicious the first time I set up a paid account and I saw LJ's disclaimer that basically said "Oh, by the way, we don't give refunds for anything, ever."

We really need to look into whether there's any reasonable way to move a 6-year-old 1000+ user community to another service.

Oh, God.

I'm just... I can't even face that. Not right now. Not with end-of-year at work, and family Christmas coming, and lack of sleep, and everything else that's been happening lately- I can't turn on the news because there is literally nothing being reported that does not make me angry, or close to nothing, anyway. I get emails roughly every ninety minutes telling me about stuff that I have to write or call or protest to someone about, because the rest of the world seems intent on fucking everything good and decent in politics or the environment or general human decency clear to death, and then I get sneered at by people I pay money to, and it just... I can't face the idea of trying to move Milliways. Even hypothetically. Hell, yesterday I realized I hadn't checked the mods inbox in over a month (thank God there wasn't that much to do in there, but still)! The idea of trying to move the whole comm... I can't face that.

I've thought about it before, believe you me. Unfortunately, right now the only real viable alternative is Dreamwidth, and Dreamwidth policy holds that any content in a given community is solely the intellectual property of the person who created that particular content - meaning that the maintainer/owner has no authority to duplicate or import it across services. :(

Well, this is bug-ugly. and counterintuitive. And I'm pretty good at remembering my keywords. And Hex is slow enough doing some things that I don't want to wait for all my icons to load. (And for some of Claudia's, they have two keywords, and WHICH ONE I USE MAKES A DIFFERENCE.) And, if you're in account limbo like I am now, how on earth are you supposed to know which icons you can actually use at the moment?
And while I never used the preview button, I can see where it's a useful feature.
In conclusion: It wasn't broken! Why the hell did they fix it???

...wow. It really is that crippled. Not only that, I ran igrick's post through Google Translate, and he seems to think he's doing us a favor. All keywords* apply, which is fortunate, since we can no longer select individual keywords. I submitted a post asking them to change it back at least as soon as possible, immediately if not sooner.

Until and unless they unfuck it, here's a workaround or two.

Gragh! Worst from my point of view: It MOVES.

It super-fast scrolled me to the top of the page instead of just revealing a *nice usable box* where I was, promptly making me nearly too dizzy to remember what I'd been about to say. After I'd already had to use adblock against the spinner that comes up when hitting 'expand' because it was making me motion sick. From my standpoint, that much motion is a MAJOR usability issue. I'll admit, I could get used to the static visuals (though the fade effects annoy me), but motion sickness is not an appropriate consequence.
