gnh. Brane, please. We have played two (2) Halo games ever, the first one and Halo 3 ODST. We have never read any of the supplemental material other than what is in the wiki. We do not need to postulate a universe in which the firing of the Halo Array wiped out all sentient life capable of Flood infestation for three galactic radii, thereby providing the extinction-level event necessary for the Cybertronians to get out from under the tentacles of the Quintessons and develop as their own culture, no matter how cool it would be to have Master Chief finally have a respectable alternative to the Warthog...

And I have to live with it.

None of this would've happened if I hadn't developed that Vergil the Huragok headvoice (helpful_squid). I spent a lot of time on the Halo Wiki reading up on his species and found that they weren't killed by the Array's firing because they're basically built from nanomechanical surrogates and therefore not technically 'life' as the Array recognizes it. They just so closely resemble biologicals that humans can't tell the difference. Hm, who else do we know who's built along those lines- the Beast Wars crowd, who're part of the G1 continuity family, or maybe possibly the poor techno-organic things that can happen in Transformers Animated... and it went downhill from there.

I'm not prepared to jump into the Haloverse quite that far just yet. Talk to me after Christmas, when I'll have the money to buy games 2 and 3 and maybe a copy of Halo: Contact Harvest to read.

The hell of it was, I came to Halo from playing Mass Effect. The Mako looks fairly similar, but it's an enclosed vehicle with all its guns on the front- so you can fall off a mountain and flip over several times before hitting the ground and continuing on your way. Nobody dies if you flip over on them. I usually just assumed that Garrus was in the back seat screaming "YOU ARE THE WORST DRIVER EVER! I don't care if you're a SPECTRE and my commanding officer! YOU NEVER GET TO DRIVE AGAIN!".

So when I started squishing Marines in Halo, it kind of took me by surprise.
