I've taken to starting my phone conversations with my parents, or my messages on their answering machine, with "Doing all right. My company's still here." That, or "Doing all right so far." And my parents tend to answer with this very concerned, very compassionate tone that most people reserve for "We're so sorry you still have cancer".

Some days I hate working in the financial sector. Esp. when there's so many rules about what I'm not actually allowed to say.

I had to read through this a few times to get what you were saying without assuming a subtext that wasn't there.

I hope you're doing OK. :) In general.

Hun it doesn't matter what you do they will worry no matter what, that's why were parent's lol. You could be working as a bank teller and they would read the latest new's of bank robberires and then worry about you. LOL. Don't worry just keep loving them and that's easy so when they worry try to change the subject I alway's try to anyway. And if anything else I bet they were very proud of your work with the Red Cross, and at ground zero. Even though they worried I bet pride shines in their eye's when they talk about you there.

I have to start every telephone conversation with my parents with "Everything is fine, there is no problem" because I (as an adult) live at home with them, and sometimes, when my daughter and I are out and about, I call home to say I will be later than usual - the problem being that they instantly assume something horrible must be happening in order for me to stop the car, find a pay phone, and call them.
They also forget that I own a cell phone a lot, too.
