Oct. 9th, 2008 09:32 amI've taken to starting my phone conversations with my parents, or my messages on their answering machine, with "Doing all right. My company's still here." That, or "Doing all right so far." And my parents tend to answer with this very concerned, very compassionate tone that most people reserve for "We're so sorry you still have cancer".
Some days I hate working in the financial sector. Esp. when there's so many rules about what I'm not actually allowed to say.

Date: 2008-10-09 05:20 pm (UTC)Times like this I miss working for the Red Cross. Yes, our budget was tiny and things got bad when economic bad times came up, but at least if my parents were worried about me, it was for a good reason, like having to work at Ground Zero or being at a job site in the path of a twenty-three-county flood.

Date: 2008-10-10 12:43 am (UTC)I have to start every telephone conversation with my parents with "Everything is fine, there is no problem" because I (as an adult) live at home with them, and sometimes, when my daughter and I are out and about, I call home to say I will be later than usual - the problem being that they instantly assume something horrible must be happening in order for me to stop the car, find a pay phone, and call them.
They also forget that I own a cell phone a lot, too.
