Hey, does anyone here have enough Russian to help me out with some expletives in the Cyrillic alphabet? I have a picture that's crying out for a caption from Pulp Fiction, but since it concerns some Russian supernatural entities, I kind of wanted to do at least the bad word in the original language and alphabet...

Camwyn, I studied three semesters of Russian, so yeah, I can transliterate.

Okay, great. I'm looking to do an icon that takes the line from Pulp Fiction that goes "English, motherfucker! Do you speak it?" and switch it to "Russian, *insert Russian word for motherfucker*!" I've found a couple of web sites that give me a Roman alphabet version of the word, but I dunno if I trust them since I haven't got a copy of Wicked Russian or anything like that.

If the translation you got in Roman alphabet was "mudak" (prounced "moo-daahck"), this is the Cyrillic (and let's hope LJ supports it.)

That's one of the ones I got. The other one I got started with a 'ye' but seemed a bit more open to interpretations other than the one I specifically wanted, so that should do nicely. Thank you!

If it was "yeb' tvoyu mat'", or something similar, it isn't the more colloquial "motherfucker/dumbass/whatever". That's a pretty big insult that directly means "(I) fuck your mother!"

Hehehe. That's smart. The "yeb' tvoyu" is considered pretty much the worst insult in the Russian language.

Now I'd be interested to see this pretty icon when it's done! :-D

I have a standing policy- never wear a piece of clothing or display a piece of art that has writing on it that I cannot myself read, or at least translate. It's just safer that way.
