So why are you looking at listings for trips to Alaska that put 'self-guided drive', 'Bering land bridge', and 'among the most isolated in North America' all in one sentence and going 'ooooh, fun!'? I thought you were smarter than that...

As nearly as I could tell from looking at the details, it mostly seemed to involve day trips into the area around Nome. I didn't look too closely because the sensible part of my brain had reasserted a measure of control and refused to get any more details. It was promptly jumped by the rest of the brain and beaten into submission, but by then I was looking at spiels about the Yukon Quest dog race and was relatively safe.

I know I'd love to go back to Alaska someday, but I've got a few other places I need to save up to visit first. China, at the very least. Possibly Australia- I'd like to see the stars of the Southern Hemisphere more than anything else, and as long as I'm doing that I might as well see some of the wildlife and some of the cities. Then Alaska again, after China if not after Australia.

Will definitely keep an eye on anything that looks really splendid about AK, though. I've already done the Fairbanks area and at least visited Denali National Park even if I haven't gone very far into it; there's so much else to see in the state that I'm free to pick and choose...
