Re my previous post:
Feb. 2nd, 2005 07:54 pmMr. Ollivander potentially an Oan. Also Flitwick. That or the Oans are responsible for running Gringotts.
Houses are going to have to be a bit different 'cos otherwise EVERY SINGLE FRIGGEN GREEN LANTERN is in Gryffindor. Possibly the Houses instead represent mega-sectors.
"You told me my father died in an experimental plane crash!"
Kilowog makes a lovely substitute for Hagrid. Just as Sinestro does for Lord Voldemort.
Pretty sure the first book is in fact Harry Jordan and the Philosopher's Battery.
Dunno what to do about Carol Ferris. Considering tapping Thomas Kalmuka for the Ron Weasley slot despite Kalmuka not actually being a Lantern. John Stewart fairly easy to see as a pupil; Kyle Raynor takes the Colin Creevey slot; Guy Gardner, well, possibly Ernie Macmillan as he's a bit on the annoying side? Dunno.

Date: 2005-02-03 01:15 am (UTC)I will say this. Dumbledore, as the mentor, must be Oan. If not Oan, then another of the offshoots. Remember, the race which spawned the gaurdians branched off in dozens of directions eons ago.
If you really want to get fancy, recall that the Gaurdians have mates. I forget their names, but they're all women. Who says Ganthetadore(?) has to be male?

Date: 2005-02-03 01:22 am (UTC)I do fancy the Alan Scott idea, though. Given that Scott's lantern powers had something to do with a magic meteorite if I recall aright.

Date: 2005-02-03 02:53 am (UTC)As for Gardner, is theer anybody who starts out sympathetic in the beginning of the books, but becomes a total asstard by the final one . . . hey, I know.
Guy Gardner as Cornelius Fudge.

Date: 2005-02-03 09:05 am (UTC)The meteorite was the Starheart, created by the Oans--their powers were once both psionic and mystic in nature, but they decided long ago to purge themselves of the chaos inherent in the magic side, and lumped it all into a chunk of green metal and tried to lock it away in the core of a sun. It got out, fell in ancient China, and prophecied that it would burn three times--once to bring death, once to bring life, once to bring power. Scott got the last bit; his lantern and ring are made of that meteor.

Date: 2005-02-03 02:51 am (UTC)HOnestly, Harry Potter is to all other fandoms what attractive human women are to all varieties of space alien in bad SF: the stock to which it is almost universally possible to breed, so long as one takes a few token measures to ensure a good fit.

Date: 2005-02-03 03:02 am (UTC)- Horatio Hornblower is a wizard who escaped into Muggle society, and that's why his name is so weird;
- after graduation, HP wanders over to NYC and chats with Spider-man mid-air, and also gets trained by Dr. Strange;
- etc.

Date: 2005-02-03 02:46 pm (UTC)This may be a significant chunk of why she died of lung cancer, because she spent a lot of her life arguing that the studies linking cigarettes to lung cancer were faulty, slanted against the companies that made tobacco, and otherwise Not Real Proof.

Date: 2005-02-03 11:09 pm (UTC)Shared this whole thing with my honey (after wiping Little Debbie off my comp. screen).
He says: What's next?? Harry Potter and the Dendarii Mercenaries? Harry Potter and the Freman Rebels? Harry Potter on the Streets of Ankh-Morpork? Harry Potter vs. Terminator?
Harry Potter and the Dalek Invasion of Time?
"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled. The Dalek was thrown backward but another one moved forward to take its place.
"Exterminate!" the monster said in its clockwork voice.
Hermione grabbed Harry and pulled him away, "Harry, come on! We can't possibly fight them all! We have to find Professor Doctor quickly!"
Me: you gotta admit, he'd make a hell of a Dark Arts teacher....
my honey: actually that's EXACTLY what I was thinking
....oh lord . . .Camwyn is right. . . .
excuse me for a minute . .. I need to go find a spork to gouge my brains out with.

Date: 2005-02-03 02:58 am (UTC)Arisia would have to be either Cho Chang or Ginny Weasley - she started out a child whose hero worship of Hal caused her to have her ring artificially age her to adulthood, but eventually came to realise that her feelings for him were just the infatuation of a girl for an older man.
And Katma Tui would make an interesting Hermione-analogue, what with her being the one chosen to take Sinestro's place in the Corps when he was cast down.
