It works better if you've read the previous material, yeah. Being that it's a Harry Potter / Hellblazer crossover, too, it needs familiarity with both canons.

Also, there will be a need for Britpicking.

I didn't know John Constantine was in Swamp Thing! Damn, I loved Swamp Thing. (I know he was a rip-off of Man Thing, but still, he was much cooler.)
