I voted.

This means I get to stick chewing gum in my ears and sing "LA LA LA, I AM NOT LISTENING TO YOOOOOOOOOUUU!" if you air any election-related ads in my presence. Out of courtesy I will not do this for purely get-out-the-vote stuff, but if you advertise any candidates, issues, parties, etc.? I got the Juicy Fruit RIGHT HERE, baybee.

I voted. I get to ignore you now.

Nyar.

I voted last week! Think of the money they've wasted on me--or not, since Tennessee isn't a swing state.

Over here the parties only get a fixed number of election broadcast slots (aired on all channels with a warning so you can turn them off).

We still get billboards and magazine ads but the TV and Radio is less polluted with politicians (apart from all the 'election specials').

We've got some spare Royals we don't want/need if you fancy giving a monarchy another go?

Gorilla-biscuits (PCP) although to be fair HRH H. Windsor's only been linked to weed allegedly.

well, at least it's for your own damn country. *G*

Up here in your adopted land ... we get to watch the damn things over and over, and it ain't even our political race. If the show we're watching is - thankfully - also being aired by CTV or Global or what not we are spared, but if it's something that is not concurrently on the canadian channel ... it's ads, and more ads, and more ads.

I also apparently am supposed to vote yes on proposition 1. Or no on proposition 1. Something to do with gambling. And yet schools. The commercials never made it clear what the heck proposition 1 is - so how helpful they are to those who can actually vote I have no clue. However, if I was to be propositioned for anything this week, after all that I'd probably run screaming - even if it was going to be something good ;)

gah.

And then tonight ... I have a feeling other than my beloved Corner Gas, it's going to be crap all for entertainment in Canadia on the television this evening. sigh.

Ahh well. Best of luck to you down there on the outcome. Both that you get the good guy (okay, the lesser of two evils - that's how politics works right? *G*) ... and that it doesn't go on for so long that another country could hold it's election in the middle of your own without a problem like last time.

(though we already had ours beforehand - probably to avoid having to do that again *G*)

heh. Yes, and the fact you have to listen to it all day at work ... that does help your case.

I'd say 'it'll all be over soon' but after last time, I'm not going to even say it. I'll just go hide in my canadian apartment, stock up on dvds (maybe I should just buy the corner gas box set, given that tonight Corner Gas is my only refuge ... and wonderfully hilarious ... and then I could watch Men with Brooms, and keep Canadiana going to help in the escapism ... hmmm ...)

and hope. *G* That's all we outsiders can do after all ;)

Ha! I can beat that. Due to the Representative Shuffle instigated by Tom DeLay, two incumbents are running for the same district this year (short version: DeLay got the House of Representative districts in Texas redrawn this year, provoking (quite fairly, I think) cries of gerrymandering among other things). They've been all the rage; lots of debates, political signs, etc. I voted a week ago Sunday, and guess what? I'm not in their district. I live in the city that they've been fighting over, just not in the right part apparently. Damned irritating.

I just think it's hilarious that you have an elected official whose last name is 'DeLay." Then again, one of the candidates for governor in Ne Hampshire was "Granny D" - Delores Haddock.

A Canadian friend living in the US exercised her right to speak out by campaigning for a particular candidate and by being a poll-watcher and canvasser. A very nice way to express ones opinion and make a difference even if one hasn't got a vote.

*Pops a stick of chewing gum in a glass of water, then takes it out while wearing gloves and streachs it and mushes it OVER and OVER and OVer then shoves it in Camwyn's ear.*

*Dose the same with another stick of gum.*

My mother voted early and because of a hot local Congressional race as well as the presidential election has still been besieged with phone calls from machines as well as real people begging that she vote for someone-or-other. Yesterday after she explained to some woman that she voted early, the woman wouldn't get off the phone and tried to wrangle a promise out of her that she'd tell all her friends to vote, and Mom finally hung up on her.

Mom wants something like the National Do Not Call registry that your number goes on the second you have voted so that people stop calling you.

I got recorded messages from Betty Castor TWICE encouraging me to vote for her.

I decided not to because someone stupid enough to telespam shouldn't get my vote.

Haha.

Just got back from voting myself. The line was nearly two hours long and everyone there said that they'd never seen anything like it. Seems the turnout will be strong in Northern Virginia.

I've gotten a couple of calls today from the Republican Party reminding me to go out and vote. Ironic, since I mailed my ballot in last week after voting almost straight Libertarian. (The exceptions being President, where I went for the most effective anti-Bush vote possible (Kerry), and the local Congressional race, where the only two candidates were both running such negative campaigns that I wrote in Snoopy.)
