Number one: I realise this is a concept sketch and probably not the most accurate depiction of the actual device, but I have to say that if I were shown the picture at http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_1891000/1891949.stm and told by my doctor that they wanted to use that thing on me, I would probably opt for l-dopa treatment instead, lonnnnng past the point where it ceased to work.
Number two: It looks like
cadhla is still feeling unwell today. Why not stop by Temple Ov Thee Lemur's Instant Monkeys Online page and send her an instant monkey? They're really cute.

I hate to be a pedant...
Date: 2002-03-27 01:39 pm (UTC)You're right, it's a conceptual sketch. After the healing of surgical incisions, probably the only visible component would be a lump, slightly smaller than one of those silly little "wearable" cell phones (i.e. around 4x6 cm/1.5x2.5 inches) under the skin of the chest wall. Which would probably be further disgused by being placed in or near the subclavicular fossa, that divot below the collarbone about 2/3 of the way out to the shoulder. Just like a pacemaker.
Sorry, I used to do this sort of stuff for a living, and as a vocation.
Hey, 4 years of medical school have to be good for something, right?
