Bad news good news

Bad news: I am not going to the city tonight after all. Neither am I going to be able to audition for Steve Irwin in person on November 15th.

Good news: this is because I just got the call. I am going to California to work as a Disaster Computer Operations specialist on the California wildfires. Most likely I'll be operating out of the San Diego chapter for three weeks, as the computer people are nearly always assigned to job headquarters. Tonight I must do laundry and clean up my room as much as humanly possible, hence no parade. Ah, well. I can deal.

So who's up for a fecking long bus ride to see me?

Wow. I wish you the best of luck out west, and hope that by the time you get there the work is only clean-up.

I hope so too, believe me. DCO is a position where you spend your entire time at the headquarters, with only occasional forays out to local operations, but the less the field people have to do the better it is for everyone. Particularly the people who actually live in the path of the fires.

It's not nearly as long as I'd thought. I called some people and it turns out they want me in San Bernardino first. I may wind up in San Diego at some point but they're starting me off at job HQ in San Bernardino.
