Jun. 18th, 2022 10:13 amBeen watching Servant of the People, Volodmyr Zelensky's tv show from before he was elected for real, on Netflix recently.
The last episode of season 1 has some distressingly prescient dialog from the main character's Imagine Spot with Ivan the Terrible (Goloborodko was a history teacher before becoming president of Ukraine and as a result there are periodically moments when he communicates with figures from history in some way).
Also, it's more than a little embarrassing to realize that most of my tiny handful of Russian vocabulary words basically came from MacGyver episodes and other eighties- and nineties-type programs where all the Russians spoke heavily accented English to each other unless it sounded good to have them use a Very Obviously Russian word. If I weren't dealing with other languages on Duolingo right now I'd have to add it to my list.
