Jun. 9th, 2022 01:14 pmWell, the exterminators were here 2-3 weeks ago with new traps and cameras to mark down the places the landlord needs to seal up (the exterminators won't do holes in walls larger than the size of a quarter). Haven't had the landlord call or indicate that anyone is coming to patch things up, but I also haven't seen any rodents or had signs of the cat being overly alert to noises in the walls.
OTOH, there was a carpenter ant in the bathroom the other day (I flushed it- sorry, a creature that leaves a scent trail doesn't get returned to outside) and there's a winged carpenter ant trying frantically to figure out how it got trapped between the panes of the front window. Hoping these are just your standard 'occasionally living things get in when you aren't in a hermetically sealed housing unit' rather than the vanguard of a colony-to-be; if I see more of them I'm informing the landlord.
Also someone apparently came to the house today from what looked like a local home repair business. I couldn't see the logos on the van but it resembled a specific one I've seen before. They never came up to this floor, but I heard the horribly creaky door at the base of the stairwell multiple times, and then I heard that door sound seemingly less creaky. If that's what they came to repair, I'm fine with that.
The world is full of awfulness and there are huge issues to be concerned about in every field on every form of information distribution that I can think of but that hasn't stopped small things from happening, it's just made me more likely to concentrate on/obsess about the small things because it's less horrifically depressing to worry about a home fixer freaking my cat out (she dislikes strangers and loud noises) than it is to contemplate American politics, environmental anything, or plagues.
no, my mental health has not been the greatest lately. five points to Gryffindor for noticing. I'll manage. Or at least I'll try.
