Change of Bastardry

Have decided that it would be narratively awkward to go ahead with the plans to have Walter Peck kidnap one of Ray's nephews for the big 'open the box, Dr. Stantz, or he will' scene. Even with using Incompetent Henchmen R Us to wind up sedating Alex with prescription strength Benadryl rather than morphine, it still doesn't work that well (although the image of Alex biding his time and waiting to use telekinesis to punch Peck in the crotch is a nice one). Someone has to get out of Poughkeepsie, get into Bellmore, deploy a Hand of Glory, grab the kid, inject him, and get back up to Poughkeepsie before the sleepy effects of the allergy drug wear off. It's mostly the beating the clock + beating the Poughkeepsie police force on the roads into town that're the problem.

OTOH.

I'd been planning on having Peck have some extra toys along for a while now. The discussion at Denny's is not in reference to the Ark at all. Peck is talking about an entirely different source of power and I want that noted right now, that I've been planning this all along. Peck worked for the Technological Intelligence Movement Monitoring project (Foliage Census) for several years. He had access to their files. He knows what their captive geniuses were capable of doing, and what their cooperative ones were capable of doing. More importantly, he knows where the kidnapped tech geniuses' stuff is stored. The Warehouse (which is maintained by the General Accounting Office's personnel, hence reporting the loss of the Ark to the Comptroller General lost more than just the Ark that night, but the President wasn't informed of all the losses because they were hoping to track those down themselves by following whoever went after the Ark.

yes, this means Ray is being trailed by a team of stealth accountants.

... anyway, one of the stolen items was chosen because Peck figured that the Ghostbusters would probably be bringing lots and lots of technology with them, especially after last time. One of the items in that Peterbilt truck of Peck's is an EMP generator.

"Open the Ark, Dr. Stantz, or your daughter gets it."

There are days when my attempts to piss off as many pantheons as possible in an effort to trigger a pan-dimensional jurisdictional squabble upon my death, thereby avoiding an afterlife assignment altogether and allowing me to scarper off to get reincarnated as a dolphin or something, are quite deliberate.

And then there are days when I become firmly convinced that if I do rank being sent to one or more of the Special Hells, it will be because James Joyce couldn't follow my stream of consciousness without a GPS unit and Batman's grappler doohickey.
