Misbegotten... wretch, so you are.

Just tried to import a 26-record file to my office's main fundraising database. I was promptly told that one of the files necessary to do this did not exist. Color me surprised, because I just did a three-thousand-record import last week and do not recall removing anything afterwards... I found another copy of the file and put it in place, but got nothing but further whingey error messages from the stupid computer. The guy at the help desk was equally mystified. Ultimately I got it to work by finding a computer that I knew for a fact had recently had a successful import and copying all the recently modified files related to the program over to my machine, but even so... I don't recall deleting those files or changing them. God only knows what the stupid thing thought it was doing. Some kind of disk maintenance, maybe. grrr...

I was up way too late last night. Apparently I have two modes when I'm running on too little sleep. One is compliant - that's rare, but it's happened before, and mostly means I'm too tired to want to expend the energy on doing much other than getting things done so I can sleep. The other, far more common, is pissy as all get-out. Sometimes I suspect that the rise in road rage, air rage, I-don't-like-the-way-you-handled-my-kid's-hockey-game rage, etc. is because in recent years American civilization has apparently decided that we're all a bunch of sissies for needing more than about four hours' sleep a night. If we all got eight hours at a go, I expect we'd be a hell of a lot less snappish. Got no proof to back it up, but it certainly makes a difference for me.

Mind you, it still doesn't change the fact that the software we use to wrangle our database deserves a good thrashing, but still.
