Ever have one of those days when characters you haven't played in years suddenly stir up all the nostalgia? All of it? I got hit last night. Oh, Brain, we retired Sergeant Wells and Hektor and Quinn Abercromby and Gimli for a reason.

But Lord, do I miss Hektor today.

Yeah I get that too. Lately it's been Emperor Norton and the idea of making him meta and able to walk through doors to any fiction he is a character in.

I may drop Hektor into one of the sandboxes later. I mostly pulled him out of Milliways because there were too many gods- I mean, we have gods at Milliways now, but there were people playing so many Greek gods... that may have been when I started with Belar, actually. Just to get some non-Greek deity mojo going on. Plus there was the fact that I use Mary Renault's Age of Heroes rather than generic mythology, so there's a MUCH lower blatant magic level than you get with other Greek-fu, and I was historicalizing the crap out of things (I was going to have the Trojan war last about a month, because ten years is way too much for a Bronze Age army to hold field discipline). And people get weird about that.

Oh, and also because of the same problem that hit Thalestris, namely, he's part of a story with a very bad ending, and there are some endings I'm not prepared to rework. It's a little easier to handle stuff like that at a sandbox.

...Now that you have Hektor in the sandboxes, I kind of want to tag him, but my all my strongest headvoices at the moment are versions of the Joker and I don't know enough about Hektor to confidently predict whether or not such a thread would go down in possibly-literal flames.

It would probably be best for them to avoid each other, I think. He has more control and less temper than a Greek hero, but he really doesn't take well to certain things.

Hektor was an incredible character and I never knew your Gimli. It makes sense that you stopped playing him as there were a lot of gods about. There aren't quite as many now, but still a fair number. Though Harry Wells, just the Wellses in general hold a special place in my heart as they were who you were playing the most when I started. Poor Quinn, you had so much to do to fix that canon.

I'm not sure who I would tag Hektor with but I'd love to thread with him again.

Oh man. Susan (aka Zulaikh). Rarely Alariel. But usually Susan. Not helped by the fact that the setting faded around her, rather than her story ending or me wanting to quit her.

I reread a bunch of Piotr threads last week after one of the I-have-a-crush-on-you LJ spambot commented on an OOM of his.

All of the reasons I dropped him are still in force, but man, I had a good wallow in nostalgia for the fun parts of playing him. Every so often I do the same thing with one of my other retired characters. So yeah, I know the feeling!

Is Hektor's sandbox EP still open? If so, I might toss somebody at him. (Thor is my thought, given thunder god, but I'm totally flexible if you'd want someone else, or if you don't want any more threads.)
