Still no power at my building. Landlord says they've got power to the building but have to replace the circuit breakers, so we're waiting on an electrician who was supposed to be coming in "first thing in the morning". I have no idea how early "first thing in the morning" is for someone in a profession as busy as an electrician after a disaster. Or if he'll show up at all.
Getting a little grumpy about the whole thing. Trying not to let it get to me. There is no point to being angry, it won't change anything in this case. There's other stuff that needs my energy, not this.
My co-worker who also lives in Hoboken was only in his apartment one night this week, and it had no power. He's staying with another friend instead. He's told me that he believes I'm the only one in the IT department who'd actually survive an apocalypse. I think he's being a little overdramatic but I can live with that kind of kudo.
We'll see how things are when I go home tonight.

Fingers crossed for power tonight!

Date: 2012-11-05 03:07 pm (UTC)The least welcome lesson I learned from 9/11 is that no matter how big the disaster or how vast the tragedy, it doesn't change anything. There may be a handful of concessions to your situation, but don't count on them. The world goes on no matter what happened to you, and you have to keep up with all that if you ever expect to get back on your feet again. Frothing rage or whining annoyance or righteous indignation isn't gonna change the fact that what happened to me and my area did not happen to the rest of the world.
There's no point to being anything but patient about this. It won't make things happen faster.

So. Yeah. *two cents in the proverbial fountain*
