I like Starbucks. Not gonna lie, I realize a lot of people aren't all that fond of them, but I've generally liked them. I'm not a fussy person about my coffee; if it's brown and wakes me up and doesn't taste awful, that's kind of all I ask. Starbucks makes good coffee flavored Slurpees (sorry, frappuccinos, but you and I know that it's a Slurpee under another name) and I like their dessert-type selections. And I approve of their health benefits and stock options rules towards their employees. These are good things. So's the fact that they publicly supported gay marriage legislation in Washington State.

'Course, this means that the National Organization for Marriage, the folks who've been hysterically screaming that allowing gay people to marry will invalidate all the heterosexual marriages out there and anger God (apparently Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian are COMPLETELY A-OKAY and not going to trigger a rain of frogs and fiery hail, though- go fig.) is calling for a Starbucks boycott.

Me, I was always gonna go to Starbucks for my coffee anyway, unless I was going to Dunkin Donuts, but I only go to Dunkin because I like their Slurpees better. I did, however, take a moment to stop by the Sum Of Us.org web site and sign their thank-you card to the Starbucks executives, mostly because it's a way of saying 'yeah, we realize seventeen thousand people have promised never to buy your stuff again- but around two hundred thousand of us like you enough to say that we're gonna keep right on caffeinating ourselves with your products, so don't worry about losing customers for doing the right thing'.

I know it's a minor thing. If anyone's interested, have a look.

I was sad when I signed it that "I wasn't, but will be" wasn't an option, re whether you're a customer.

I don't drink coffee things, so I don't go to Starbucks. But I'm well aware they do sell things I *could* eat or drink; it's just not worth going to a "coffee place" for those things.

Except, at least on occasion, it now will be, *because* of the kind of company they are.
