The reason I have not done much with Notes From New Vegas recently is because Mass Effect 3 came out last Tuesday. I finished it today.

What. The hell. Did I. Just. Watch.

Bioware, as joyful as I was at the triumphs I achieved along the way in that game, you put me through WAY too much effort for that damn ending. Screw you.

Lord High Protector Megatron really DOES demand an explanation for this slag.

There's something fundamentally wrong with the universe when Valve makes a more satisfying ending than Bioware.

What's worse was that I was presented with three possible choices of ending. And all three had the same addendum, which I am going to endeavor to put in white on a white background so I don't spoil anyone by mistake:

"Oh, yeah, and ON TOP OF everything else your choice accomplishes, the act of releasing the energy involved will destroy the entire mass relay network. So whatever else you do, you just destroyed galactic civilization and isolated everybody to their local clusters. Sucks to be you, huh?"

Why did I slug my way through the first two games and so much of the third if that's going to be my outcome no matter what the hell I do?

...okay, when Hannah told me about the ending(s), she failed to mention that aspect.

I'm not even a ME fan and I still find that disappointing as hell.

Yeah. The dispenser of information mentions it briefly in passing right before you have to make your choice. Releasing the energy of the Crucible, whether to destroy the Reapers or to attempt to control them all or to do the space magic woowoo that kills Shepard and makes Hideaki Anno go 'ooh, wish I'd thought of that when I was turning the Evangelion world into Tang', will destroy all the mass relays in the network. Period, end of sentence.


So whether you do the supposedly Paragon thing, or the supposedly Renegade thing, or the supposedly Screw Y'all I'm Taking A Third Option thing which is even lamer because it's pretending to be an alternative, you're stuck. It's going to happen and you're going to screw the entire galaxy with it no matter what your decision is.

It's not just you. Except ours wasn't so much 'tell me the truth, show me the real option' as 'I'm not choosing anything until you do'.

Either way, it's a finger in the face to a game creator that goes 'look! Choice! No, you only get the ones I want to give you', and that's a good thing.
