Dec. 26th, 2011 11:05 amI love my family, and I stayed over my parents' place for Christmas morning and had a great Christmas this year, but I spent so much time with my sister's kids on Saturday and Sunday that when I finally came home Sunday night I had to actively jerk myself awake several times while trying to fall asleep because my brain insisted on going into pre-dream mode* and acting as if I were still in my parents' house trying to sleep despite the kids. When you have to consciously remind yourself that the apartment is silent save for car noises outside and the only other living things in the place are your cats, it's pretty much time for just taking a day and staying in. I'm not goin' anywhere today except to buy some groceries and toiletries. My big goal for today, set last night, was 'sleep sixteen hours straight'. Didn't make it, but hey, it was worth a try.
*You know. When you're on your way to sleep, so the governors that keep thought linear and rational disengage and your brain starts disgorging what might usually be dream material, only not as loud or as vivid as a real dream- just random imagination, essentially. I think they may technically be a type of hypnagogic hallucination or something, I'm not sure.

Date: 2011-12-27 09:06 am (UTC)Oh, how I miss those days. I'm still a proper little Snorlax who eats and sleeps too much, but I don't think I've slept more than six or seven straight hours lately.
I'm glad you had a good Christmas, though :)
