Oct. 30th, 2011 12:52 pmI survived the snow last night. There's people outside scraping it off their cars and the sidewalk now. We have power here, and heat, which is nice. My parents? Not so much. Nor my sister. At least Dad bought a generator after Hurricane Irene, so they've got some measure of respite from the situation, but damn, I wouldn't want to be in my sister's shoes...
I was going to visit my parents today if the weather allowed, but when I woke up for the first time this morning I learned that it was not only Shark Week, but a really bad Shark Week. I get two or three of those a year. Not bad in terms of output, bad in terms of pain- I fed the cats, took two ibuprofen, went back to bed and lay flat on my back trying to let the pain waves pass. Eventually managed to call my parents and tell them I wasn't going anywhere today. I'm doing better now, thank goodness, but I don't know that I want to be here when the painkillers wear off.
At least I have plenty of pasta and beans and stew and biscuits in my kitchen. Yesterday I made a batch of mayonnaise biscuits, starting by making the mayo and the self-rising flour from scratch- needed to use up two eggs. They're not bad, for drop biscuits. I may have to try the recipe again at some point and use a slightly different flour- I had about a cup or so of all-purpose left and had to use cake flour for the rest of it.
That's it for the moment, I think. More later.
