Oct. 24th, 2011 08:15 amAllow me to say this: I am not a tremendous pumpkin fan. I'm not objecting to the gourd, mind. It has its place and I'm sure people like it. I just have no particular interest in it or desire for food or drink that comes in pumpkin flavour. It's simply a thing that is there and that other people are more interested in than I.
However.
Friday night saw Shula in a bad way when he tried to use the litterbox. Repeated attempts at moving his bowels resulted in little more than a few drops of dark brown liquid per attempt. I phoned the vet, since I knew they had evening hours, and they asked after his symptoms and how long they'd gone on, and said they'd give Shula's file to the vet and she'd call me back. Didn't happen, but that was all right, more or less. It turned out not to be an emergency. Shula threw up at one point- just his treats, not his dinner- and eventually achieved a successful core dump. Not before I found out there was a scale for rating the results of such things for medical assessment, mind. Useful information, to be certain, but not something I would ever have thought I'd need- ANYWAY. Shula ate half a can of his regular food after that, and drank some milk, which I gave him because he's usually a bit lactose intolerant and I figured it'd make things a little softer down below. Since that's not a great idea on an ongoing basis, I did a bit more research.
Shula now gets a teaspoon of pumpkin in two out of three meals each day, and seems to be quite happy with the fact. And I am a bigger fan of pumpkin than I used to be.
