Oct. 5th, 2011 10:53 amShula's been hissing at Kamella regularly and getting into slapfights with her almost since I brought him back from his teeth cleaning at Bide-a-Wee. I'd thought he was just being grouchy, and then he started spending most of his time at the opposite end of the apartment from her. I got a Feliway and plugged it in near his food dish so he'd at least feel calmer and more at home.
And then he pooped on her cat bed.
And then last night he went out of his way to poop in her food dish.
No, seriously. Not on the floor nearby, not somewhere else and then accidentally finish off in the area of the food dish, none of that- he positioned himself right over her food dish and did it.
Anyone got any suggestions on kitty jealousy therapy?

Date: 2011-10-05 04:28 pm (UTC)Feliway is good. A drop of vanilla on each cat's head and rump is also good. Clean out the litter boxes and wash as much stuff in the apartment as possible (try to reduce any lingering unpleasant or hostile smells around the place). Brush them with the brush and comb to mingle their scents. Keep claws trimmed as much as possible.
An odd suggestion- can you turn down the heat in your apartment? It's been my observation that cats are often willing to get along better when there's the attraction of shared warmth- "Shut Up, I'm Cold" has been the start of several cat friendships in my household over the years.

Date: 2011-10-05 07:44 pm (UTC)Related anecdote: I used to have a cat who'd occasionally sneak into places she wasn't supposed to be, like my dad's bedroom. If he caught her in there, he'd holler at her to get out, and she'd scamper out. Then later she'd sneak back in and poop either on the rug by his bed [the floor was concrete, so the rug was always the first thing he put his feet on when getting up] or right in his slippers. Ah, kitty revenge...

sometimes that works!
