And running email archive searches for backfile ingestion to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley record keeping requirements. This is the non-programming equivalent of "Sorry, compiling!", so... meme time!
1. Give me a canon (or character from a canon)
2. And I will give you FIVE things that, in my opinion, make that canon super special shiny and awesome. They may be characters, crowning moments of awesome/funny/heartwarming, particularly epic music or animation, or just things that make me out and out squee every time.
(Or, because it sounds a little hilarious, I can even attempt to take it meta for you. Give me a character and a canon, and I will tell you from that character's pov what their five favorite things about a specific canon [theirs or any other] would be.)

Date: 2011-08-22 01:38 pm (UTC)1. The war is over. Finally. The killing has stopped and the San 'Shyuum lies have been exposed. No one has to die for any more lies.
2. The humans... they build machine intelligences. Machine minds, that I can touch and hear and talk to. That they let me touch. The Covenant never trusted thinking machines, so there were hardly any- but the humans let them run whole cities. And ships. And they let me speak with them.
3. The humans innovate. In the Covenant even the Sangheili would not go beyond the Forerunners' devices, or ask us to. To change too much from the machines and technology of the Forerunners was blasphemy to all of them. I was happy to work with the machines of the ancient ones, it was good and it felt like home, but... now I get to see new things and new thinking, and it comes from those who should have succeeded the Forerunners, and it is good.
4. Even the stuff which the humans aboard the Spark In Darkness assure me is very bad food is still interesting to eat. Better than what most Covenant ships have.
5. No Yanme'e. The Yanme'e have never been fond of my people and would harass many of us if they had the chance. I never liked them much. Even the Kig-Yar were more respectful. I don't have to avoid drawing Yanme'e ire any more.

Date: 2011-08-23 12:32 pm (UTC)2. Ray's fscking brilliant. He's the only person who can keep up with Egon, and he's got his own ideas and contributions and theories. The cartoon tended to blot this out because you can't have two smart guys in a kid's show, although Straczynski-writen episodes tended to be better about that. I like my heroes smart. And building on that...
3. Ray is both smart and emotionally human. Egon's got the stereotypical emotionally repressed scientist vibe going on, but Ray feels everything and isn't afraid to show it. Which, awesome.
4. He uses professionalism as a defense mechanism when things get majorly hairy. 'Duly designated representative of the city, county and state of New York' indeed.
5. And there is something kind of awesome about his fail when a plan falls through, or when he gets halfway into a situation and realizes he's run out of plan. "Get her. Nice one, Ray."

3. To this day, I can't look at people with smartphones constantly checking their Facebook and their email and everything else on the bus between their work computer and their home computer without thinking, "Gargoyles."
4. Hiro's climactic ad placement. Well done, sir.
5. Vic's lines here:
"It's, like, one of them drug dealer boats," Vic says, looking through his magic sight. "Five guys on it. Headed our way."
He fires another round. "Correction. Four guys on it."
Boom. "Correction. They're not headed our way anymore."
Boom. A fireball erupts from the ocean two hundred feet away. "Correction. No boat."
