Feb. 23rd, 2011 10:24 amReading's going more slowly than I had meant it to when I made my new year's resolution about 52 books this year. My own fault, I guess. I get chicken about taking up more space than necessary on the bus, and reading a book requires taking up more space than napping until I get in or out, so... meh. More sleep at home is the key, I suppose.
I have not gotten very far in The Great Adventure. I put it aside and picked up my copy of The Atomic Times: My H-Bomb Year At The Pacific Proving Ground. I'll probably have to watch a lot of Sesame Street or Bugs Bunny when I'm done but eh, I'll deal. I'm used to this kind of thing by now; every so often I find myself latching onto a subject like a tick onto blood, and while I might read other things during the course of the obsession, they tend to be fewer and farther between. Sometimes it's harmless subjects like Antarctic exploration or sourdough bread production or Canada or traditional/primitive archery. Sometimes I have to be more careful about managing my SAN rolls because it's stuff like teratology (the study of birth defects and what causes them- you probably want to turn off image loading if you look up the word, fair warning), literary dystopias, or, well, the atomic stuff. The mild obsessive tendency runs in my family, at least on my father's side. I'll get back to other subjects eventually. This one just has to run its course.
