Made it into the office despite the snowpocalypse. In retrospect my decision to turn down my usual Boxing Day party invitation (made on Christmas) looks to have been exactly the right one, given the trek that'd be involved in getting back from the party. Had to slug through something like 3/4 of a mile of the Hoboken streets to get to the PATH, as NJ Transit canceled all the buses, everywhere. By some miracle the M train was running when I got to 34th, so... I'm here now.

So how're all y'all?

It is possible that my parents' vehicles are snowed in due to the drifting.

It makes me somewhat unhappy.

Yeah, I can believe that. On all counts. I was the first person out of my building this morning if the lack of footprints was anything to go by, and the number of cars that won't be going anywhere without hours of work was... disturbing.

There's a five foot drift up against the garage door, and a four and a half foot one blocking the porch in.

...and they're making some weird food thing my brother brought on Christmas day for breakfast, and it has sausage and peppers in it.

And I'm tired and cranky and have already gotten frowned at a number of time for moving and making it difficult for them because of it and why haven't you found a job yet and I want to go somewhere that doesn't drive me utterly crazy and I want to destroy so many things.

Hm. Sounds like the kind of conditions that lead to the development of piblokto. Pity it's a culture-bound syndrome confined largely to circumpolar women, because otherwise you'd have a perfect excuse for running around screaming incoherently, indulging in echolalia, and generally spending several hours flat-out batshit before flopping down semi-conscious with exhaustion for a while.

Well, there's also the part where usually the running around screaming incoherently is done naked. And modern sanitation means there's no copro lying around to phagia despite that having traditionally been part of the syndrome, so yeah, it could probably get entertaining right quick.

Not too bad, though that's likely to change. I haven't attempted to cross MA in my rented rollerskate yet. Though...damn, Scituate is under five feet of ocean water.

I have no idea even now if the Museum is open. No one seems to be making a decision. So I decided not to fight the buses and am working from home.

My boss tried to get to work on the local train from Queens. Five trains shot by him at the stop he managed to reach, so he said screw it and asked his wife to drive him to the Queensboro express station. Turns out nothing was properly plowed and it's impossible to get much of anywhere, so he's working from home as well. I don't think you'd be able to get out of Queens even if the Museum were open.

I am admiring your snow from afar. Ours was just enough to make the grass look seasonal on Christmas Day, and that was entirely sufficient for my taste. Snow is always lovelier somewhere else, and I hope this one clears away soon for you all.
