Dec. 17th, 2010 08:34 amSo I've still got the cold/infection/whatever, and yesterday it took a turn for the worse and I had to go home early. Last night I spent forty-five minutes running back and forth between my bedroom and the bathroom because the back of my throat did not feel inflamed or raw, but did trigger massive spasmodic coughing if air touched it, and sooner or later that set off the gag reflex.
Feeling rather better today, though still coughing, and working on inhaling in ways that don't brush quick-moving air over any sensitive spots. It's a little weird but it seems to help. Also planning on rinsing my sinuses out every two hours.
You didn't do this to the dolphins, Lord. Why did you do it to us?

No, seriously: it'll slow, warm, and moisten the air coming in.
Cough suppressant with codeine works worth a damn. Dextromethorphan doesn't (there is SCIENCE! to prove this thing). Honey is as effective as DXM and tastes better. 8-)

Date: 2010-12-21 01:21 pm (UTC)I may have to speak to my doctor about codeine cough syrup. I've got loratadine syrup that won't expire until May; occasionally that works. Right now, though, I've spoken to a guy in my office who says that his doctor had him on antibiotics and nasal steroids and such and after the antibiotics finished told him to take Claritin or an allergy preparation of Advil and just spray up his nose, not rinse out his sinuses, because once the symptoms of the initial infection stop it's mostly gonna be 'tough out the post-nasal drip' time. I may do that since other than the drip and coughing I don't feel ick any more.
