Generally I don't sit with my legs crossed for very long if I can avoid it. I tend to get fidgety and need to change my posture every so often. Last night, however, Kamella hopped into my lap for the first time since I adopted her.

I sat with my legs crossed for an hour rather than disturb her.

She purred herself to sleep in my lap, even snuggling herself in once or twice. I have something of a talent for holding still enough that animals are willing to sleep in my presence- the last time I was up in Canada, I visited an aviary where you can pay $2 to feed nectar to lorikeets. A friend of mine who was with me started talking to the volunteers while we were in there, so I just stood still and held the nectar out for the birds. About ten minutes later I was informed that the bird who had fallen asleep next to my right ear was the flock's alpha female, who tended to be a bit wary around humans.

It feels like an honor every time something like that happens.

Awwwww! Apocryphal story about Confucius cutting off the sleeve of his robe rather than disturb a sleeping kitten pops into my head. (Don't know if it's true, I just love the idea!)

I think it's also important maybe that Shula didn't come and cause a fuss. I've had full on slapfight turf wars over my lap! o_O
