Aaaand now VPI says the claim is temporarily denied again because they don't have Shula's complete medical records for his entire life. They said if I submit his complete records as far back as possible with a note saying that there are no medical records extant for him before that, they'll process the claim. I've called the vet and asked them to fax the records and said note. I'm hoping I have the information right because otherwise I'm just getting rapidly more and more frustrated.

I will pay people back. If the insurance company doesn't accept this claim for whatever reason I'm just going to have to do it more slowly. I'm sorry.

(Yes, I know that this is far from the worst thing that could have happened, and yes, I know that if this is as bad as it gets I'm a lucky person and he's a lucky cat, and yes, I know I'm whining about first world problems... but it's my cat, and I love him, and I got the insurance because I wanted to do right by him, and I just don't have veterinary records for him before this year. I'm beginning to feel a bit of an idiot, really.)

Quite frankly, at this juncture I would probably have used the "and this was not told to me before, and I would like to know who failed to properly apprise me of the situation while I get my flensing tools" line of thought.

Consider this boot camp for dealing with insurance companies on human medical claims. Because it sounds just about the same kind of run around. Seriously, they profit on wearing people down, the bastards.

This sounds like typical human Health Insurance practices. Deny the claim until the new fiscal quarter begins (1 Oct). We once had a claim (I used to do medical billing) that had been denied several times each for some trivial thing. We put up with it, kept shooting it back at them, until they asked for the date of the patient's last menstrual period.

The patient was male and the procedure was a testicular torsion repair.

Yeah, that's how low they dug. That prompted a couple of pretty hostile phone calls. And eventually it got paid in full, but...they try to wear you down. Insurance companies don't want to pay out. That's not how they make money. >:(

I hope it all works out, and I hope you hear great news on the job front!

Why do insurance companies of any kind, for any species, have to be such dumbasses about things?

Good luck to you and Shula. Hopefully things will work out.

Insurance companies are always like this to everyone for everything, it's how they keep "their" money (your money) in their pocket. Which is why I think - for the most part - they should be dissolved.
