Date: 2010-09-19 05:17 am (UTC)And I was wrong- VY Canis Majoris is the largest star known in terms of size. The star I was thinking of, R136a1, is the most massive star in existence; it's equivalent in mass to two hundred and sixty-five of Earth's Sun. VY Canis Majoris isn't nearly as massive, it's just bigger. Light starting from one side of VY Canis Majoris takes eight hours to reach the other side.
