vincentursus asked for my top five bastards. Don't worry, there won't be any more of these this morning- my remaining three questions are taking longer to answer and will probably be concatenated into a single post.

Saren Arterius of Mass Effect 2 I take it back. Saren wasn't enough of a bastard; his motivations weren't entirely his own. I put forward instead Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir of Dragon Age: Origins. Who did everything entirely under his own motivation and I don't CARE if he thought he was doing it for the love of his country, it all added up to one great big round of WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU.
Justin Hammer as depicted in Iron Man 2 (I haven't read any actual Iron Man comics, so I don't know what he's like there, but I have never in my life encountered another character I uniformly wanted to punch in the face from the instant he first opened his mouth to the instant he was hustled off at the end- and I've read Atlas Shrugged several times)

ooO! I didn't realize anyone but me had ever encountered Sixth Degree Hosteler Tu! He *is* a right bastard, ain't he?

And Justin Hammer is *worse* in the comics, than in the movie. Deserves to be castrated by Thor's hammer...

As far as I'm concerned the Keanu Reeves one is the result of an incident two hundred years back where a minor brother of the Constantine family decided to seek his fortune in the States and severed all contact with the rest of his family. Worked out great for him but resulted in a couple of odd parallels later down the line in much the same way that separated-by-adoption identical twins can sometimes turn out to have freakily similar lives when they're reunited forty or fifty years later. Keanustine is just another member of the family who happened to get into magic and piss off some of the same entities, most of whom decided to have a joke at his expense.

Crowley's a fair choice, sure, but I liked Sixth Degree Hosteler Tu better. His entire existence is a Hannibal Lecter-flavored Noodle Incident that takes place in a magic-riddled version of ancient China.
