Dec. 11th, 2009 09:49 amDid basement to 44 on Tuesday, took Wed. and Thurs. off. Will just be doing basement to 44 today rather than adding floors. This is because a, I'm coming back from time off, and b, I'm going to be running a bit low on iron. That in itself constitutes an added challenge, which is really all I ask.
I used my iTouch's stopwatch function on Tuesday just out of curiosity. Got the following times:
Basement to 10: 3:04.2
10 to 20: 2.57.0
20 to 30: 2:49.4
30 to 40: 3.11.7
40 to 44: 1:10.5
Gasping against the wall, walking in circles, then 44 to basement: 11.40.9
This isn't as great a disparity as one might think. Basement to first floor is about half a floor more than, say, 4 to 5 due to the structure of the building. I think there's something similar between 1 and 2. The floor between 11 and 12 is a full extra floor with no exit door of any kind. 20 to 30 contains a slight extra distance because 27 to 28 includes a change of stairwells, and 30 to 40 is longer than any of them because when I got to 34 I had to stop and wheeze for a while before I could start again. As for the walk down, well, I timed that mostly because I wanted to see how long overall I was in a situation where my pulse was well above baseline, and the walk down is definitely still an elevated heart rate period.
I used music for this climb, too. Currently my playlist for practice is set on shuffle, but I always start off with the Halo theme (Mjollnir remix). If Master Chief can't get you up the stairs, nobody can. The rest of the list so far:
Armored Prayer - Gears of War 2 soundtrack, Steve "Transformers" Jablonsky
Centerfold - Freeze Frame, The J. Geils Band
I'll Make A Man Out Of You - Mulan soundtrack, Matthew Wilder
Enter Sandman - Metallica, Metallica
Burning Down The House - Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads
Duel of the Fates - Phantom Menace Soundtrack, John "God of Marches" Williams
Scorponok - Transformers: The Score, Steve Jablonsky
Haven't needed more than that to date but hell, I got 66 floors coming... even if I can't wear the headphones on the day of the event.
