Well, there've been at least two Transformers/GI Joe crossovers already. This would just be movieverse Transformers/some variant on GI Joe that got created in the early 21st century in response to the Decepticon threat. And it would not be a cross with the GI Joe live-action movie, because no world that actively encourages a company to develop largely unstoppable self-replicating nanobots and build them in a politically dangerous region, or that allows one company to produce 70% of the world's known weapons, deserves to have the Autobots in it.

(Not that I couldn't see someone trying to develop the MARS nanobots as a counter to the Cybertronians' presence on Earth, but self-replicating, nearly-all-devouring, potentially mind-controlling grey goo scenario? Hells no.)

I remember one comic book crossover (first issue or two the Joes blew up Bumblebee, which is how they explained his change to Goldbug in the comics, I think), and references to Joe characters in the (2nd?) tv series that had Ultra Magnus and Rodimus Prime, with that lady whose parents were strongly hinted at being Flint and Lady Jaye. Are those the ones you're thinking of, or is there another one I don't know/didn't read about?

Well, there's also one AU I can think of that involved World War II-era alt modes for a few of the mechs- I dimly recall that Bee was stuck as some kind of motorcycle with sidecar. But yeah, they're all in about the same category.

There was one done by Devil's Due, which had the Ark found by Cobra, and turning the Autobots and Decepticons into the Cobra vehicles. When they broke free of the Cobra mind control, the Autobots took pains to try to set right what was done while they were mind controlled, and the Decepticons became, uh, angry. Like "Starscream transforms to robot mode with Major Bludd in the cockpit and there's a red mark on the inside of the canopy with associated squish noise' angry.

According to the wiki entry:

"In issue #4, Flagg becomes involved in the action when Cobra's role in a millitaty parade is uncovered by several men under his command. Flagg tries to go after Cobra Commander personally. The terrorist fires one shot, creasing his temple. Cobra Commander fades into the crowd. When questioned by one of his men why he did not fire back, as he is known for his pistol skills, General Flagg simply looks at several nearby children. He had not wanted to risk injuring a civillian.

Later, Cobra forces attack the Joe Headquarters, the Pit, early in the series. General Flagg is in the brig, which contains two prisoners, Major Bludd and a prominent Cobra officer nicknamed 'Scarface'. Bludd escapes, killing Flagg in the process."

Huh. I'm going by what was in that guide, which IIRC was released this year in anticipation of the movie. No idea if issue #4 came out after it was released; I guess I better double check when I get home later.

In any case, I haven't seen the Joe movie, had no plans to do so, and am kind of glad I didn't, if your comment above is any indication.

Well, Lawrence Flagg had a son named James, who followed the family military tradition. And that issue #4 was from 1982, I didn't paste the whole article in- it's here:

I'm fairly sure the Flagg entry in the book said it was the first commanding officer, hence the need to look at it again. And anyway, the author might be wrong too and got his Flaggs mixed up. ;) (After all, I don't recall any romance between Cover Girl and Shipwreck, unless that was in the comics.)

Ok, strike that, I was mixing up General Joseph B. Colton with Flagg. According to the guide, Colton was the original founder, while Generals Lawrence J. Flagg and Aaron "Iron-Butt" Austin were behind the "modern" version of the team.

They say Michael Bay wanted the soldiers to be the Joes, but couldn't get the rights to both... we're better off, as the G.I., Joe movie was actually, like, good.

I have my issues with the G.I. Joe movie, as the comment above indicates (well, the comment above and a general fuming over breaking up the Baroness and Destro). But, yeah, whatever its flaws, the G.I. Joe movie would only have suffered more than it ever deserved if Bay had been involved. TF2007 was good. TF: ROTF? Hells no.

That, too, was a problem for me.

It may say something that I spent most of the movie half-convinced that they were going to kill Breaker by the end of it. Useful to his team, highly intelligent, but non-combative compared to the others and brown-skinned? Practically had 'KILL ME' tattooed across his forehead.
