Today I am deeply grateful for hardwood flooring. Also for an apartment layout that means daylight makes the floor visible without me having to switch on a light, since the light switch for my living room is on the side closer to the kitchen than my bedroom. (Translation: hairballing happened while I was asleep, and not only did I see it in time to not step in it, but I was able to clean it up easily instead of having to soak it out of carpeting.)

I love my cats. Their digestive systems, maybe not so much, but it's a package deal so I'll live with it.

Oh, congrats! I had much the same discovery this morning, and yes--hard floors ftw.

I hear that. All of it, hardwood floors, feline digestion and the rest.

Hahaha, one time one of my cats was sitting on the ironing board and began to have an episode of hairballing - not enough time to toss him outside, so I just tossed a plastic bag down on the floor - and it was like a projectile torpedo missile launch.

I was impressed.

I'm sure Einstein or other higher thinkers supplied whatever math cats use to determine where to place hairballs overnight to ensure their owners step on said hairballs.

They're just being friendly... Not finding the hairball in a timely fashion can be much worse.

A little vaseline on the kitty's upper lip or someplace they lick frequently can seriously cut down on the hairball issue. The vaseline gets consumed and lubes the way down for any hair and helps it go safely through the digestive tract.

This was a lifesaver when I had a long haired kitty!

What are you feeding them? Seriously, I feed mine Purina One Indoor Formula, and they don't have *any* problem with hairballs. (And the fact I regularly have to clean up enough cat fur to knit another cat is telling.)
