I've been compiling a list of tourist things I want to see in New York when I finally get the chance to take vacation time. So far I have:

Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, Astoria Park, the tram ride along the Queensboro Bridge, possibly the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia, the operational farm somewhere in Queens, the Brooklyn Aquarium, Prospect Park (esp. the Prospect Park Zoo), the Brooklyn Bridge, Chinatown (possibly the Museum of the Chinese in America), the South Street Seaport, the National Museum of the American Indian, the NY Fire Museum, the other tiny museums of south Manhattan, a random Staten Island Ferry ride, the Tibetan museum in Staten Island, the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, the Bryant Park area incl. Grand Central (the Chrysler building if they have tours), the Empire State Building and immediate environs, the Strand, Times Square, and Ellis Island and *maybe* the Statue of Liberty if it's not hot and smelly inside any more.

I reckon I won't see it all in a week, or even two, but I figure I can at least see a good chunk of the stuff on that list. Is there anything else some of y'all would recommend I add to the list of stuff that should be seen?

Not that this is, uh. At all helpful in any way, but: MAN I wish you could have seen the Met this time last year, when the superhero fashion exhibit was on. The only reason that wasn't my absolute favourite day of the whole summer was because Col. Tigh and Bill Motherfrakking Adama later led a few thousand people in a rousing chorus of SO SAY WE ALL at D*C. Because I mean, seriously. Comics/film/pop-culture geekery and srs museums. UNITED. In the same building as a whole bunch of for-real-omg-look statues and vases I had studied, providing an opportunity to lecture my sister (about to take one of the same courses) on the various phases of Roman sculptural fashion.

There is only one possible punctuation configuration to express my feelings on this experience as a whole, and it is:

*___*

For an actual helpful suggestion, I would nominate a visit to the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan, if you haven't been. It's not exactly a yay-fun-times outing, for obvious reasons - near the end, I had to excuse myself to the bathroom and just cry for a bit - but it's worthwhile.

I did the Empire State Building for the first time when I was showing the guy from New Zealand I was seeing around NYC and it was actually a huge amount of fun.

I work in public relations at The Jewish Museum. So I have to recommend you visit. Even though I don't know if you would like what's on view.
