Feb. 17th, 2009 08:28 pmApparently, I shop for real estate the way comic-strip men shop for shirts... "is it my size? Can I afford it? Okay then!"
At 9:20 this morning Iggy told me the co-op board had rejected his application to sublet. By 10:30 I'd found a suitable apartment on Craigslist, seen it online, and made an appointment to go check it out in person. As of about an hour ago I was filling out the application form to rent it, and if I bring them the deposit by 6:30 PM tomorrow, it's mine. One bedroom, large kitchen, two smaller rooms, and a smallish bathroom with a shower stall instead of a tub. Hoboken, 10-15 min. walk from the train station. Once again, the top floor- there was another apt. with the same layout two floors down but this one was rather nicer. Pets permitted, so the cats can come with me. $1350/mo. Deposit is 1.5 months' rent. Apt. becomes available 1 March, when the current occupant moves out, but they want to clean the place out first so I may have to bum some couch space for a few days.
I will probably buy at least some of the current occupant's furniture so that I do not have to get all of mine up the stairs.
