Among all the other appropriate holidays. Whatevs, it's all good.

Just dropping a note regarding something that showed up on my "..." slate this year. Among other things I got for Christmas this year was an issue of Interweave Knits. The back of the magazine has a classified section. I browsed it this time to see if any yarn stores in New York or New Jersey that I recognized had placed an ad. One tiny four-line ad caught my attention. New Mexico. Organic, fair trade, non-profit- it's an organization that sells Navajo sheep herders' yarn, wool, etc. as part of keeping the Dineh way of life alive.

Normally I'm into that kind of thing on its own, but Lord help me, I had to buy from these people.

They're named Black Mesa.

Yeah, they don't have a good web designer and updates don't always propagate quickly. This is what I got when I emailed their seller:

"Here's a list of the handspun Churro yarn currently in stock--it could all be used to knit into sweaters, jackets, or blankets, as well as hats:

(1) By Edith Simonson--classic medium to finer weight weaving yarn, also can be use to knit or crochet:
--one ball natural dark chocolate brown, 4.2 ozs.
--5 balls vegetal-dyed extraordinary gold wild carrot, 4.6 oz., 3 oz., 2.5 oz., 2.1 oz. 1.7 oz.

(2) By Betty Nez -- classic thicker "saddleblanket" soft and thicker, also great for knitting and crocheting:
--3 skeins dark magenta (commercial dye): 4 oz., 3.2 oz., 4.8 oz.
--2 skeins medium magenta (commercial dye): 1.6 oz., 2.4 oz.
--2 skeins warm coral (commercial dye): 5.6 oz. together
--1 skein natural white 6.4 oz. plus about 10 skeins additional natural white, average 4 oz. each. If you're interested in her white, I can weigh them individually for you.

(3) By Lena Nez -- classic medium to finer weight weaving yarn, also can be use to knit or crochet:--
--1 large ball grey-brown, 30.3 oz. (1.9 lb.)

--16-18 skeins natural white, soft and a bit thicker than above, 6.15 lbs. (average is 5.6 oz each skein) The average weight of the white skeins is 5.6 oz. or more--you can buy as many or as few as you'd like.They would be weighed individually for any orders placed--likewise with Betty Nez's remaining white skeins.

HANDSPUN YARN PRICES: We are paying fair-trade prices to our experienced handspinners of $3/oz. for all natural-color Churro yarn, and $3.50/oz. for vegetal-dyed (or commercial-dyed) Churro yarn. This year, we have consequently raised our yarn prices to $5.50/oz for natural white Churro; $6/oz. for natural-color Churro; $6.50/oz. for commercial-dyed Churro; $7/oz. for vegetal-dyed churro)."

The seller can't vouch for how much yardage that is, only weight. They take checks or money orders, no credit cards or PayPal.
