Maybe you not know Og. THat okay. Og make intro. Og simple cave dude who say, hey, Og not sure how this happen but Og not have mammoth for hunt any more. Og not sure where woolly rhino go either. Since Og big hunter, Og sad Og lose all big animal to hunt. Og have to feed self and clan some other way, so Og do natural thing and learn be systems administrator.

Shut up, it totally natural. Mog-ur say so.

Anyway. Og want report very important thing. Og systems administrator for Windows network. This all right, it get job done. Og boss say, some time back, "Og, you make it so whole Work Clan not able go bad places on Interhunt."

(Og still work on concept of 'net'. Og clan usually get fish with spear or blocking river. 'Net' sound like big mistake to Og.)

Og say, okay, I do this thing. Og do this thing with hosts file. This file that say, hey, computer, this set of number, it mean this computer. This make for easy block because computer stupid. Og tell computer espn.com have number 127.0.0.1, it say, okay, looking at that number. And it not find espn.com so it give up.

This all right except Og add part in host file that say, hey, computer, this set of number, it for server right here. Og give number for all server right here at place of Work Clan. This work okay and Og forget about it.

Og have little problem with 'Kerberos authentication error' some time back. Og not sure what cause this. Og try diagnostic. It not help. Og troublespear (Og not real good with bow and arrow) but not find problem, so Og give up. Two day ago Og and Og junior sysadmin move one server to new cave. This server name Romana1. It primary domain controller. It also DNS server. This mean it tell other server what set of number mean, where look for computer, etc. etc. This good. We move server. It work. We test. It okay. We go out, do drum dance for celebrate, go home.

This morning other folk of Work Clan say, 'Og, we have problem. Interhunt and localhunt move slow. What wrong?' So Og go to check out. Og start by look at DNS address. It okay. Og junior sysadmin make it change when Romana1 move so that all right. Og not sure what else cause problem, so Og thinking hard. Og also need make new computer for new person. Og try work on that too. Og get weird error that say, hey, server not exist! After Og roll willpower okay to not put club through screen, Og try troublespear again. Og not find whole lot of answer, so Og get frustrated...

... and then Og remember host file and think, hey, Og put server name in host file, didn't Og?

Yup. That Og problem. Host file say, 'hey, DNS not count. Take host file word for it. Romana1 at this number.' That number wrong now that Og move Romana1. Og say bad word and take line out. Then Og say MORE bad word because next line say Romana2 at same old number Romana1. THis cause Kerberos authentication error. It all because of typo.

Og fix now and Og work clan much more happy, but Og want make sure other sysadmin know: hosts file more trouble than hosts file worth.
