So I acquired Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360 while I was on vacation this time. I started playing it at [livejournal.com profile] daniidebrabant's tonight. I will, I think, be alternating between it and Half-Life 2: Episode 1. I need to write up the Half-Life episodes for y'all, but I definitely want to do a Camwyn Stinks At Video Games run on Fallout 3. I've bought myself a strategy guide and read over some of it, but I'm making a point of leaving it at my place when I go to play, so that I get the full flailing experience.

I have decided that while Gordon's response to his in-game situation was "And that's when I knew Baby Jesus didn't love me any more", and Jack's in Bioshock was "I just wanna go home and work on the Kennedy campaign!", the Vault 101 Dweller's- at least so far- is "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH BIG BLUE CEILING BIG SHINY THING IN CEILING WHAT THE HELL." After all, neither she nor anyone else she knows has ever actually been outside. She's got a worse case of not recognizing the real world than most gamers. And I get to periodically stop when she's wandering around the Wasteland, look up at the sky, and RL scream "AAAAAAUGH BIG BLUE ROOM WITH NO CEILING AIEEEE." Agoraphobia's a bitch.

This is gonna be fun.

Didn't you, at one point, mention the possibility of tossing the Vault Dweller into [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses? She and the HLverse pups could compare dystopias.

I could point you to a few different avatar-builder websites if you like. Mairi's icons, for example, come from here (http://www.moeruavatar.com/index_en.shtml) and here. (http://www.meez.com)

On that note, try Fábrica de Heróis. (http://fabricadeherois.blogspot.com/) The controls are labeled in Portugese and you'll need to take a screenshot to actually save the picture, but once you figure out the interface it's great fun.

Maybe try eLouai (http://elouai.com/candybar4/dollmakergirl.php)? It's the best dollmaker I've come across; while there's quite a lot of random crap in it and some of its options are way too trendy and/or sparkly for my taste, it's got a huge selection of clothing and hairstyles. (And it's even better if you're like me and know how to customize the hell out of everything.)

I also use The Sims 2 for making characters (see icon), but the problems with that are that 1) you'd need to get a whole new for-pay game and 2) in order to have a halfway decent selection of clothing and hairstyles, you'd need to download a metric assload of custom content.

Oh, one thing I forgot to put in the original post (I miss having all the paid features): Unfortunately, the bases only come in one skin tone, so unless you're up for some mucking about in a graphics program, she'd need to be white or light-skinned Asian.

You'll discover at the first main story quest part that your assumption is false, heh, the protagonist was outside the vault before ;)

Did Millways (the Callahan's Bar idea if I'm getting the name wrong) go belly up?

And, what's more, she's the second one to do this (the hero of Fallout 2 was a descendant of the original Vault Dweller of Fallout). You'd think that the Vaults would have something to compensate. Of course, if you follow my friend's theory, from his homebrew Fallout tabletop RPG*, the Vaults were a temporary fix that failed to take into account how long folks would be inside, and everything broke down from there.

* That was great fun. From the walled village of Walmar (the T had long ago fallen off the sign) to Eddie's Hot Rod Shop ("Eddie's got the gas!") to Haunted Harold the Ghoul (Paranoid Schizophrenic; he heard voices), the expiditionary team of Vault 54 found all sorts of interesting things in the Wastes.

Friend Computer? How high up is that Blue-clearance ceiling?

YOU ARE NOT CLEARED FOR THAT INFORMATION, CITIZEN.

I was hoping that you'd do Half-Life Episode 1 posts. I've never played any of Valve's games, but, thanks to your posts and Milliways, I may be able to fake familiarity with their products. ;-)

I thought from your post that it was. I meant to imply that I was happy that you were going to do Episode 1.

I have no idea if my computer will run Steam, but thank you for the information! I'm...really bad at shooting games, or things that require the ability to aim.
