Apparently the level of ibuprofen that the hospital has me taking hit critical mass yesterday or something, because it's been upsetting my stomach for the first time since I ever took ibuprofen for anything. Last night I went to bed earlier than usual because it was twisting my stomach up, and this morning... well, I woke up fine this morning, took my prescription, and spent most of the train ride in to work this morning wishing I could sit down.

Anti-inflammatory action is very good and I appreciate it greatly, but right now I just want to lie down and close my eyes. 2400 mg/daily is not my idea of fun.

D: Have you tried taking it with meals, or just after? I've tried to squeeze by with a piece of bread or a gulp of milk or something, but real food does seem to do the job better.

Last night I took it about half an hour after an actual meal. This morning I didn't have time to eat.

'm not looking forward to my midday dose, but I should have real food to go with it, if nothing else.

If you are having symptoms, you have to make the time for something, even if it is just a smoothie, milk, what have you.

The doctors gave me an Rx for 800 mg tablets of ibu, to be taken 3x daily. Not for pain, for anti-inflammatory, so that my kidney didn't do horrible things because it'd been forced to expel sand.

I can accept this, and I will continue to take the stuff, but my stomach and my large intestine wish to register their vetoes of the idea.

Call the doc's office, and tell them what kind of side effects you're getting. You'll probably get either a switch to a different anti-inflammatory, or an additional med to keep the ibuprofen from eating a hole in your stomach (ibuprofen-induced bleeding ulcer = BAD; been there, done that, got the endoscope pictures to prove it).
