I am SO outta the loop. This is the Robert Downey, Jr. thing, right? I just heard about it a couple of days ago. This is what I get for not watching broadcast telly, right?
Five years. It's been five years since the Hulk movie came out.
And this is going to be with Edward Norton? Now, don't get me wrong. Edward Norton is an AMAZING actor. But my immediate reaction to thinking of him as playing Bruce Banner is to stare at the screen and go, ".....Really? Come on, Hollywood."
Oh, well- originally Marvel or the studio, I forget which, had been planning on it being a sequel. Then Ed Norton basically pulled the studio bigwigs aside and said, "You're aware that the last one sucked so badly that no one would be willing to see a sequel to it, right?", or words to that effect, and the script got reworked into a remake.
It's not so much a remake, really. As I understand it they'll be starting it in medias res with flashbacks to their version of the origin, and from the trailers it seems you could just skip those flashbacks and pretend this is a recasted sequel...
