I found a store that sells lye.

As soon as I find a suitable recipe and the right essential oils, I can make soap again! I might go back to the store and buy a container of the lye now, or two, since they had two on the shelf when I was there- but it's still out there despite the meth heads leaving cities so cheesed off they pass precursor laws!

I can make soap again!!!

Now it becomes a matter of finding my old leather jacket (assuming I still have it) and locking up the cats. One does not meddle with lye when potentially jumpy animals are around, and one does not take any substance that can melt your skin off lightly. I have welding goggles I can use for the visual protection- I bought them for a Ghostbusters costume, but they're perfectly good goggles regardless.

I get that kind of comment a lot. I'd just like to point out that:

a) I have never seen Fight Club
b) I know about where the soap comes from
c) I cannot vouch for the quality of soap made from human fat because
d) the only people I know of who are in any kind of position to actually confirm or deny the quality of human fat soap are Nazis. No, literally, I'm not Godwinating here- I mean I don't know of anybody other than them who made soap from human fat for real.

.... although if someone could provide me with a list of the fatty acids found in human fat, and its approximate iodine content, I can compare it to existing fats with known soapmaking qualities and see how it stacks up.
