Well, I'm in Secaucus, waiting on Windows to install on our blade server. One of the blades, anyway. We're having some trouble getting my laptop to install it; apparently there's a security issue with Vista not letting a foreign machine detect my dvd-rom drive despite the drive being mounted. I'm gonna have to do the rest of this from home or from the office tomorrow.

I'm going to be here until after business hours, as we're going to have some networking stuff get done that can't be done during the work day.

When you say "blade server" I get this lovely mental image of a machine hurling knives at tennis players. What does it really mean?

A blade server is a type of server with minimal hardware and other foofaraw. It's generally an entire server on a single piece of plastic about 1/8 the size of a regular old server. They have to be mounted in special enclosures that hold around 10 or 16 blades, and the enclosure handles all the nervous system stuff like networking, power supply, etc. They're easy to remove and replace, but the initial infrastructure's a pain in the tuchus.

I had to name the first blade earlier. It's Teletraan-1. By the time I get all the other blades installed and named we'll be up to Teletraan-10.
