Not for the first time, Han wondered whether Whateley genuinely had any human blood in him, or only claimed he did. "It 'ud be a shame 'n a sin to leave it go any longer. Iffen yew're as fast as they say, I kin count on yew t'have it to me in time fer sarten conditions that I can't git here."

"Oh, I'm as fast as they say, all right," said Han. "I'm just wondering what's so all-fired important about a book."

"So," said Quinn, rubbing at his face as he leaned back to look at the tall, swarthy man. "Wind god, eh?"

"That's right," said Enlil, massive arms crossed over his chest.

"Inventor of the hoe and pick-axe? Holder of the tablets of destiny?"

"I see you've done your research, human. Yes."

"We got lucky. Someone brought his old anthropology textbook to the castle a few years back." Quinn jerked his head over his shoulder towards the distant building. "Seems to me I remember a bit where you sent the Flood and wiped the human race off the face of the Earth, too, am I right?"

"Eminently so. I'm pleased to see that even after all of this time your race remembers the greatest figures of antiquity with proper reverence."

"That's not reverence you're seeing on my face, mate," said Quinn. "It's stalling."

"What?"

Quinn yanked up the hood of the fire rescue suit he'd been wearing just in time for the approaching dragon's first pass. "That's for all the other disasters you sent, you bastard!"
