Northwest airlines terminal at Detroit airport = roughly size of ISLAND OF GUAM.

Bet you could fit a small hydroponic farm in.

I saw birds.

I heard it's supposed to be a huge place.

Clear skies.

*waves furiously at Cam as she goes by*

Yup, I'll be out there in a couple of days myself. It's not to hard to navigate once you get used to it, but the first couple of times? Blech.

And it's definitely not the prettiest airport.

To quote Douglas Adams, "There is a reason no one ever coined the phrase 'pretty as an airport'."

Very true. Though some places seem to work harder at the not!pretty than others.

I live in the New York metro area.

We have Newark, which is designed as if it was inspired by the movie Uzumaki.

We have Kennedy, which is half Shining Airport Of The Future! and half tenement airport of the past.

And we have LaGuardia, where the 'main' terminal is part glass-n-steel and part crumbling brick, and the Delta terminal looks from the outside like a prison.

Welcome to New York. We Work Harder To Make Our Airports Ugly.

Us Michiganders like to store birds in our indoor places a lot. I think it makes us believe we live in a warmer climate.

*is used to SeaTac and PDX*

Up in the NW we DO have pretty airports.

SeaTac is kinda cool, but PDX is gorgeous.

Did you see the pretty infinity fountain that does a water show every five minutes? I watched it lure small children and adults alike. I thought one man would drown given how he was trying to figure out How It All Worked. Some folks looked for the hidden cameras.

I often joke at work "Look, a bird!" when I want someone to look the other way and pretend they don't see what I'm doing. Duffy (who was my trainee, Duckling, when he started) innocently says "That's silly, we're inside the building, there are no birds." He's a California boy and plays up the blond quite a bit (although he's not near as blond since he's been in Maine a couple of years). There have been birds in our airport before, and he knows it.
