Nov. 2nd, 2007 09:02 amGnuuuh. Awake.
I was up too late last night, although it was worth it, I think. Ray's Octoberplot is finally over bar the wrap-up behind-the-scenes posts and one that I'm considering arranging with
mephron if I don't do it myself. Walter Peck, giant robots (well, one giant robot, anyway), the Ark of the Covenant, at least a couple of kung fu Nazis, and a cough drop monster. Among other things. It was good, just not conducive to getting to sleep at a reasonable hour. I'd say my nap earlier in the day helped, except that said nap included a side detour to early-onset REM sleep, and the dream that ensued was one of the horrifyingly realistic yet highly implausible ones I have from time to time. All the sensory details were absolutely perfect, even down to the people I saw on the street and the FEEL of the volume of the sounds, it's just that the Concorde no longer flies, so it's not going to be able to crash into an apartment building, and it's sure as heck not going to do so after bobbing its fuselage down between its wings like the dragons in Reign of Fire.
Like I said, realistic detail, implausible content. I sat up afterwards panting for a good five minutes before turning on the lights, cranking up the music, and pulling myself back into the world of the everyday.
I haven't caught the people at Chelsea Bikes yet at a time when the guy who ordered my bike was available. I'll be phoning them a few times today, and if I can't get hold of him I'll at least find out if they have any Kryptonite New York locks in stock. I can get one now and use it while I have Danii's bike on the premises. It'll get me used to the weight.
Gnh. Need coffee.

Date: 2007-11-02 04:29 pm (UTC)Ray's the only Ghostbuster who shows up for the actual big stuff, fair warning. I ran the plot with the goal of letting other people play in Ray's world, and there were enough people who expressed an interest that I couldn't keep track of everybody and the other Ghostbusters at the same time.

Date: 2007-11-02 05:54 pm (UTC)After the Gozer incident Peck was supposed to have been fired or at least demoted, but a clerical error got him transferred to the Foliage Census project. When FC's original investigator failed to figure out where Ray was getting some of his more advanced tech from, or at least how he was developing it (since he did a lot of his research at Milliways, and nobody from FC could get there), they changed investigators and Peck got the case. Peck arranged for Ray to be kidnapped and told him that he could either put his talents to work for FC or he could spend the rest of his life in custody, which in practical terms meant Ray waking up in a shack in the Montana wilderness with no technology on hand, a week's worth of supplies, and only the Army survival manual and Jean Auel's books to get by on. When the Ghostbusters and their Milliways allies rescued Ray they also blew Foliage Census wide open, and the Justice Department seized the opportunity to punish everybody involved.
Peck went to prison, which he felt was monstrously unjust because he's that kind of asshole. He managed to get his hands on a number of occult books through Amazon, and thanks to the fact that Yankton Federal Prison Camp was located right next to a major ley line nexus, managed to get the stuff in the books to actually WORK. The plot begins in earnest with him escaping from Yankton in April by turning himself invisible and waiting for someone to investigate his cell before walking out. He spends the next several months bouncing around the country investigating other major sources of supernatural power in an effort to get enough to strike back at the Ghostbusters for his humiliation. (His next step was going to be the government that he felt betrayed him, but first things first.)
Unfortunately Peck had not gotten any more diplomatic during his time in prison, and managed to piss off every single supernatural entity or power that he came in contact with, which is pretty impressive given that at one point he tried to get in touch with Hell through the supposed gateway to Hell in Stull, KS. About all that he really managed to accomplish was a number of screwed-up wards and torn-wider openings between the regular world and the ethereal plane, most notably in Chicago, where his attempt to get at what he believed was a doorway to another world disturbed the city's ley lines and resulted in the Robert Mackenzie and the storm that sent the ship to the bottom manifesting together every night for several weeks until the Ghostbusters came through with Carlos Ramirez (from the Dresden Files) to put things right...
Sum Up 2
Date: 2007-11-02 06:16 pm (UTC)Shortly after that he stole a truck and a bunch of Preparation H and headed to Cleveland, Ohio, where the top-secret Warehouse was located. No number, no other designation, just the Warehouse. He then deployed a Hand of Glory candle to paralyze everybody on the premises and stole the item at Warehouse space XF-23-2, which was the Ark of the Covenant. Ray found out about this on his birthday when the President asked him and his colleagues to recover it, which is just one of many, many reasons why he doesn't like his birthday any more. He and Egon went into research mode, both in New York and at Milliways.
Ray managed to stir up some interest from people at Milliways in helping out with the recovery. One example was Tyler Marlocke, a student from Aaron Williams' comic PS 238. Others included Andrew Wells of B:tVS, Matilda Wormwood of Matilda, Indiana Jones, Melaka Fray of the 'Fray' comic book (Buffyverse, 200-300 years in the future), Michael Daemon Donighal (Divis Mal, a superpowered fella from several White Wolf RPGs), Flynn Carsen of "The Librarian", and Mirai Hibino, of Ultraman Moebius. When it was discovered that the Ark was inducing the same plagues along its route as it had in 1 Samuel 5 and 6 when the Philistines took it- mice and hemorrhoids- it was decided that they had to lure Peck out into the open to make an attempt on Ray's life and freedom before he could unleash the thing on New York City. Since Ecto-1 had been converted into a Transformer of sorts, albeit one based on Earth tech, when Ratchet of the Autobots had worked on her in the past, she and Ray and Winston went to the towns with mouse plagues and made it obvious that Ray would go where he needed to go and not bring a lot of backup with him. This was sufficiently pleasing to Peck that he and his allies, which is to say members of the Illinois Nazi Party, decided to head for Poughkeepsie, NY and catch Ray and Ecto out of their native territory...
And final sum up.
Date: 2007-11-02 06:17 pm (UTC)(The Illinois Nazis blame the Ghostbusters for a certain repeating spiritual manifestation that started cropping up and making their meetings impossible recently. They wanted revenge, and Peck offered it to them. They were unaware that it was actually Peck's screwing around in Chicago that released spirits who took the form of two beloved Chicago fictional characters and their 1980 Dodge sedan.)
The Chief of Police of Poughkeepsie called the Ghostbusters as soon as the Nazis tried to slip into town without being noticed, because he didn't want an ongoing mouse plague. Ray and his allies promptly went in search of the Ark's location at several areas that had high PKE readings, but he couldn't guarantee that any of them worked, as the PKE levels were sufficient to shut down the PKE meter. Mel Fray and Indy wound up fighting zombies at Bardavon Opera House. Tyler and Mirai Hibino had to deal with thugs and sorcerers at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center. Divis Mal and Flynn Carsen were tasked with the Culinary Institute of America, a naturally high-PKE site that was ideal for Peck's purposes- he was hoping to channel PKE into shielding him from the Ark's wrathy power for long enough to actually tap into the Ark's overall strength. Andrew and Matilda went up against the sorcerous types at the Smith Brothers cough drop factory that had once made Poughkeepsie famous; they set off a tripwire rune circle that released so much PKE into the premises that the next day's batch of cough drop syrup got animated and attacked everyone in sight.
The final battle went down at the IBM Supercomputer Benchmarking Plant just north of town, and Peck turned out to have stolen some advanced tech from the Warehouse using knowledge gained during his days at Foliage Census. He threatened to unleash an electromagnetic pulse that would kill Ecto instantly if Ray didn't open the Ark of the Covenant himself...
That should do, I think. You can get the ending from reading the thread at that last link. Alternatively, go through
