One of the hazards of operating on remarkably little sleep (which happens when one's Blackberry goes "OH HAI UR SURVUR CLOZIT, IT ARE TOO HOT" at 2:30-3:15 AM) is that it makes your brain fire off a couple of neurons that normally couldn't be bothered to interface.

[livejournal.com profile] drharper, possibly [livejournal.com profile] mephron? I was reminded, as I was pawing through [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants and [livejournal.com profile] marysues, that about a year and a half ago at both [livejournal.com profile] dear_multiverse and [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar I established Ray as being of 3/4 Russian ancestry- his father's family, and his mother's maternal lineage. His grandfather Max was a youngish teenager when he managed to get the flock out of Poland during the Second World War, before the Germans and/or the Russians could completely nail down his part of the country- some people simply are not cut out to be partisans, you know? And it seemed a shame, given that my own ancestry is rife with ethnic conflicts that seem to indicate I should be punching myself in the face constantly, not to stick something like that in Ray's family tree as well.

Anyway, it occurred to me today to go digging through a list of Polish surnames just to see what I could find. And sure enough, there it was.

There's a snickering little part of my brain that says Grandpa Max's surname could've been anything at all, but Grandpa Max's own mother originally hailed from a village currently called Vytvytsa that's located in the part of Poland that was absorbed by the Ukraine- and that *her* surname reflected that fact.

st00pid crossover bunny that won't even tell me what the hell I'm supposed to do with it.

Bahahaha.

One of Ray's nephews looks oddly like a certain kid, and ends up being good friend with one of the later-to-arrive Autobots, who some people think is just a know-nothing punk....

And as far as cross-cultural conflicts? German/Welsh. (My surname is an anglification of 'Dyddew', as opposed to being French.) Which means that for two weeks ever summer I want to conquer France: one half because it's for liebensraum, the other in revenge for the bloody NORMANS shoving around the bloody SAXONS.

I'll take Transformers/Ghostbusters for the win, Alex.

...aaand the other 1/4 is Scottish? I know, your Ray is not from the cartoon universe, but I recall liking the ep where he inherited the Scottish castle.

...

I hope this is based on the movie I haven't seen yet, because I don't see the connection between your Russian/Polish background for Ray and Transformers.

You mean Spike and his dad in the original cartoon? Because I don't recall ever learning their last name. (Although the futuristic crossovers with GI Joe were pretty cool and funny.)

Tiny nit: the canon spelling is Witwicky.

Okay, the Cybertronians now know exactly who to call the next time Starscream's ghost shows up and tries to possess someone... :)

Consider also Megatron's SOP regarding odd new technologies: find a way to use them to conquer the world. There's got to be something he could do with the boys' gear, and he'd probably lie awake at night trying to figure it out. :)

...And what if they could get Ecto-1 rebuilt into a Transtector (a mindless human-pilotable Transformer-tech robot)? Hand-to-hand combat with the next super-sized ghost that comes around... extra points if Ray or Egon becomes a Headmaster cyborg to control it.

*reading old entries, fell off LJ for a week, late comments all over the damn place*

Sweet good goddamn, that's made of all kinds of awesome. I maintain my position that there are certain fandoms that can be crossed over with anything and should be at every available opportunity.

Throw in Gargoyles and I am one happy camper.
