... there are viruses that turn their victims blue. Iridescent blue.

Granted, it's mostly their invertebrate victims, since they just make their vertebrate victims (gouramis, cichlids, some frogs, etc.) horribly sick and die, but still- VIRUSES THAT MAKE THE VICTIM SHINY IRIDESCENT BLUE.

They call them iridoviridae. This is SO COOL.

Wouldn't it be easier to just paint an isopod?

Think of the custom effects you could accomplish that way.

And use photoediting software on the pictures...

One day I'm going to either get my sketching mojo or my photomanipulating mojo together enough to patch a Grammaton Cleric seen from behind into a picture of one of the more horrific Great Old Ones rising, and then I'm just going to add the speech balloon: "Partridge? We need bigger guns."

Dude, the whole point of Prosium is to protect people from the Mythos. The nuclear war that nearly wiped out the human race? Instigated in a desperate but ultimately futile effort to stave off the onslaught of the Great Old Ones. Go far enough past the Nethers and out beyond Libria's known borders and you find lands where the world's gone strange, where rocks bend and twist around each other in shapes subtly wrong, where the rivers burble of things best left to lie in the remains of wrecked mountains and the stars fall one by one into line...

All the survivors agreed to the Prosium because it was the only thing that staved off the atavistic madness. One might not feel any more afterwards, or might feel all things blunted through the drug's haze and fog, but without that deep and primeval terror there would be no fountain of madness springing up at the thought of that which was steadily rising in a dark and terrible tide to overwhelm the world. Emotion was the key that allowed the things man was not meant to know access to the mind. It had to be stopped, if man was to have any sanctuary at all. It was for the species' own good, to buy time until- something; no one knew what. It was to buy time.

And it did, oh, yes, it did... right up until the day when something sang to DuPont in his dreams, and he put the dose aside, and learned such secrets as no man might ever recover from. He knew. He knew.

It's a fun movie, and it's got Christian Bale putting bullets in people and frowning in puzzlement a lot while wearing impressively severe dark coats (which he's much better at than Keanu Reeves). And if you watch Dog Soldiers after watching Equilibrium your brain will do an interesting wrenchy thing as you try to reconcile the extremely profane but still friendly and decent Sergeant Wells with Father, 'cos the same actor played both men. It's best if you're into dystopias, though.
